Last weekend I attended the annual SWPP (Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers) Convention and Awards Night. It is a fantastic opportunity to mix with some of the best talent in the industry and to attend the trade show and classes where speakers will share their knowledge on everything from business to lighting and posing. The event is held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, Edgeware Road in London and attracts thousands of visitors every year. As well as a monthly competition that runs throughout the year, where photographers can submit work for judging and where the highest accolades are put forward for awards announced at the Awards Night, there is also a 16×20 inch print competition where photographers can submit prints for live judging at the annual event.
The standard for the 16×20 inch print competition is incredibly high and this year there were over 1,000 entries. Each image is painstakingly judged for composition, lighting, posing and overall impact and given a score by a panel of 5 judges. Anything over the score of 80 receives a merit. Anything over the score of 82 gets to be displayed for 14,000 visitors to view in the Convention Reception Area at the Hilton Metropole. I therefore felt very proud that my entry (shown above) for Classical Portraiture made it onto the wall for display.
With so amazing images submitted, it was a real honour to be up on the wall along with some of the best photographers in the industry and follows on from winning another merit for my entry into the Nouveau category last year, the image of which is shown below.

The image taken for my fine art boudoir portfolio was one of a series of images, the blog post from which you can view here: Boudoir at Hotel Du Vin
