On the 4th July I was delighted to photograph my first Persian wedding in London. I have always wanted to photograph a Persian wedding and am also fascinated to learn more about the traditions of other cultures and how they conduct their marriage celebrations. I met Thomas and Anita for a pre-wedding shoot on the day of the wedding at Broomfield Park, Aldermans Hill in North London. The weather was glorious and we had a relaxed hour or so to photograph them around the beautiful grounds of the park before heading off to the Parish of St Paul Church in New Southgate for their wedding ceremony. They arrived at the church in a fairytale white horse drawn Cinderella carriage where Anita’s father was ready to greet her and walk her down the aisle. The wedding itself was full of music, emotion and song followed by photos with all the guests in the church grounds. The reception was held at The Penridge Banqueting Suite in Enfield, North London. Unlike a traditional British wedding, the reception began with lots of dancing which ensured a great atmosphere from the outset, followed by some amazing Persian cuisine and speeches.
It was a truly special day and I feel privileged to have been a part of it. I hope there will be more opportunities in the future for me to photograph weddings from a range of cultures, but one thing is clear, it doesn’t matter where we are from, the one thing that unites us all is the love felt between family and friends…
